A day of rest or acclimatization is necessary if one is to avoid any symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness. Visitors inadvertently climb too quickly as they are capable of doing so due to their general physical condition. It is thus necessary, on the first exposure to altitude, to proceed slowly. The body must have several days to begin its adaptation to reduced oxygen levels at higher altitudes. At its most basic, altitude is addressed by reaching an elevation and sleeping at that elevation for several nights so that your body can begin its adjustment to these changes.
